I'm sure the custom-fabricated hoses you got were of very good
quality and possibly gave better than oem performance. However,
there is a "middle ground" between (1) buying parts at the Audi
dealer and (2) having them custom fabricated. A knowledgeable owner
(except in an emergency) should never feel obliged buy brakeline
hoses from "Audi", since there's nothing particularly special about
the rubber lines used on the '92 200q. I've not had a problem
sourcing good quality non-oem replacements--some for considerably
_less_ than $25/ea.
BTW--as Bernie will tell you-- you just as well could have used those
cracked and frayed hoses that melvin is about to replace. Of course
I'm not being serious about that, and long ago I didn't think Bernie
was (serious) either. But over the years it's become clear to me that
Bernie suffers from a dangerous form of dementia when it comes to
saving money. His advice--especially about brake lines and
rotors--can be downright dangerous! Fortunately, I doubt that many
listers are foolish enough to follow Bernie's advice about the
service life of brake hoses and rotors.
