Tire suggestions please

I'm looking for suggestions for an all season tire for a '91 Avant.   It is 
used in snow (ski season is VERY important) rain and dry  weather.  I would 
like something that is not very expensive, grips the road  like glue in all 
weather and is quiet.
 
Of course, I don't expect to get all 3 in the same package.  
 
My mechanic, (not a 200q20v Avant expert) tells me that his tire pro says  
the best bet is a Nokkia.  Of course, that's going to cost me around $600  for 
the 4 when all's done.
 
Any experience?  Any thoughts to share?
