Distributor shaft gear

Yep that was the only time in 13+ years (and counting)
owning my coupe 'q that it left me stranded. Was late
at night, died pulling from a stoplight. While
waiting over an hour for the flatbed to arrive,
occassionally one of the numerous passing cops would
stop and advise "this is a bad neighborhood, you
shouldn't stop here". Yeah, thanks.
Worst part was that being pre-internet I didn't know
about this issue and neither myself or a competent
Porsche mechanic could figure out what was broke.
Ended up going to the dealer for I think $800. At
least the mechanic paid for the tow, he felt bad that
he couldn't figure it out.
The distributor was the very first thing I checked
when putting the 3B motor in the coupe. This was in
2001 pre group buy, so I bought a brand new
distrbutor. Worth it to me for the peace of mind.
