Well, if you go and get a K&N filter, the hp-2005, this one is the one K&N
says works on our cars. I have have been running this filter for 6,000 miles
and is fine. This filter is used on many other cars as well, Maybe, I am not
sure about this, but maybe the mann filters were used on other makes of cars
as well. Here is a listing of all the cars that use the same filter as out
cars by k&n. http://www.knfilters.com/search/applications.aspx?Prod=HP-2005
Maybe this helps,

Just as a followup to Derek's post, I can confirm that the current version
of ETKA has superceded all I-5 filters to the same part number as the 1.8T
oil filter. I don't have the number handy, otherwise I'd post the part
number here.
BTW, the oil filter for the VW 2.0L engine is also the same. I think this
was done for ease of stocking parts, not for performance, as my mechanic has
told me repeatedly that the bigger black "turbo" labeled filters for the 10v
turbo were definitely different from the other filters- maybe the
anti-drainback valve was better or something? He mentioned that the car
would suffer from lifter tick with the non-"turbo" filter.
