Steering rack options

R,

As I've recently posted, the 200Q-20V rack is different (upgrade, NO!) than
the 5Ks and 10V 200s, and apparently (ZF tech quote) the parts to rebuild
the -M rack are not available to independent rebuilders but are used
exclusively by ZF in their rebuilding business. But I believe that the
earlier 5K racks that Jorgen is rebuilding can be substituted for the 20V
rack, ask!

Further, I have always believed that Jorgen's SS pitch is nothing but sales
hype. Having successfully rebuilt three of these ZF racks, there is
absolutely nothing in these racks that suffers from corrosion problems and
that would benefit from a soft stainless steel sleeve. Better, ask them
what they use for the high pressure rod seal, which is the only weak link in
the design. I'd bet that they use the ZF 5K seal kit, and will sell you a
5K rack.
