[V8] The death of The Black Mariah?

I think the idea of getting a muffler that would suit your needs for sound/flow, sourced from another car is a great idea....especially if it is cheaper. Heck, it has to be... just based on the demand for, say the as mentioned Ford 5.0L mufflers. They must sell a ton of those.

Guess you would need to get one large enough to accomadate the extra inlet pipe and have a bracket or two added. If you need a center muffler as well, you could go with a pair of glasspacks as someone else has mentioned.

FWIW, I had a shop weld on straight pipes from the cats to the rear mufflers to omit my centers. They had been dented so much from the large drop out of our new driveway, that they began to corrode and leak at the damaged portion. There was no way I was spending hundreds of dollars for those boat anchors. The only additional noise is a VERY SLIGHT burble at idle that is only perceptible outside the car...and at the rear. Absolutely zero additional noise into the cabin at any speed....much to my chagrin.

Before you throw in the towel, why not look for an aftermarket
muffler to fit, and have your mechanic (or a good muffler shop)
weld up a new system for you? It may not be a Stebro, but it
should a) pass inspection, and b) last you a few more years.
A Google search should help you find a manufacturer. I think
something for a 5-liter Mustang should let the turbo breathe.
Even if you do it in mild steel rather than stainless, it
should last (forgive me) the life of the car.
