window regulator woes

Phil:

Something similar happened on the wife's avant a few weeks ago....
factory crimp/swivel pin pulled right through the mount holding the window.

Went to a pick and pull, and took are rear window regular from the only 100 
that I could access the rear door.
Turns out that it had been replaced with an italian made one....

Install in the Avant was straight forward, but I was discouraged how  _s l 
o w l y_ the window went up and down...to the point of the window 
stopping.  I applied copious amounts of synthetic waterproof grease to the 
center slide, actuated the window up and down multiple times and the travel 
speed improved tremendously....

I think that in itself is a lesson learned and preventative maintenance 
action item- if your windows are slow to travel, grease the center slide 
NOW....winter is not a good time to lose a regulator....

Now I am only concerned about what happens when I put italian parts into a 
German car...(granted that I already have some OCAP rear upper links)
