discusses the different coolant technologies. The article says all
coolants can be mixed, which I disagree with. A friend of mine is a
chemist who did a study on various coolants; additive packages vary
widely and are considered trade secrets, and some coolants do react and
form a sludgy mixture.

I stay away from extended life coolants; it's pretty cheap and easy to
stick with a pentosin or similar coolant.

That's different than the green stuff the original poster reported
finding
in his car. My understanding is that the orange extended life stuff
should
only be used if you do a complete flush of all previous products from
the
system. Otherwise, it mixes with other types of antifreeze to form
plugs.

Yes, but, the discussion has also centered around the question as to
whether
any antifreeze other than Pentosin is acceptable. If the Prestone
Extended
Life (orange color) is not acceptable, I'd like to know why.

thanks,

Tom
