Hard start, cold start problem, rough idle

Little more information I've gleaned on this issue...as soon as the car
warms up to say the temp needle being at about the first small hash mark, if
I turn the car off, upon restarting even just second later, the car will not
idle of it's own accord.
Also had the stumbling problem just start happening as I was waiting to get
on the freeway this AM. Stumbling was accompanied by the Check Engine light
and then went away within about 2-miles/5-minutes. I hope it threw a code,
but my past experience says it probably didn't.
Anybody with additional ideas as this is getting ridiculous. What could
possibly change by turning the car on and off?
