My newly acquired Avant just turned 229k and the PO said the gear has never
been changed.

In a rare moment of foresight, I purchased a brass gear in the most recent
group buy before the Avant was even a twinkle in my eye.  How urgently
should I replace it?

Is there a write-up of the replacement procedure anywhere?  I've seen
discussion on this list and have done some Google-ing of audifans, but
haven't found anything more substantial than discussion.  I think I have
a fair idea of what needs to be done, but just want to be sure.
