But the Euro versions (at least in the past with the TT 3.2 and I
believe the euro A3, too) have the "Launch Control" feature, which
avoids the power cut.

Yes, with this car it's far too easy to be less-than-smooth from a
stop. A smooth take-off can be done, but it takes some effort to
train the foot and avoid the initial "lurch" (which is OK when you're
actually trying to get away as quickly as possible). It might be that
Audi programmed the throttle too aggressively (assuming the throttle
progression is adjustable via coding) in order to compensate for the
lack of a true Launch Control. If that's the case, perhaps the
VAG-Com can enable the choice of a different "map" for throttle
effect. I've not see that ability noted, and I've studied OBD.org
site fairly carefully.

Never heard that complaint. But we've not had a cold morning yet--the
car is kept in a heated garage so never been colder than about 60F
since we've had it.
