Brady has a btdt on his 20v avant, i'll either get him to write in or
ask him what he did.
I have an 89 200 tqa that someone else imported from arizona
and an 87 golf 2 gti that i imported from the UK
neither has drls. strictly speaking with Transport Canada if the vehicle
is over 15 years old then it doesn't need modification eg: i have no cat
on the golf 'cos the uk didn't mandate them until 96. the provinces are
supposed to follow this.
When the golf was inspected in quebec, the inspector failed it because
it had no DRLs, but the inspection station manager pointed to him that
the car was over 15 years old and didn't need them so made the inspector
re-do the inspection report.
I got the impression that the provincial boys like to fail cars because
they get extra revenue when you come back for a retest. the fact that
the golf failed early on in the test due to lack of DRLs meant that the
inspector didn't 'find' anything else to fail (the car had passed it's
french safety test a month or so before so was fine...).
moral based on experience and advice from pal who imports MGs from all
over the place:
get the car tested as is. you will either get lucky and it will pass or
you will have a list of things to do and a retest. if the only thing to
do is hook up the dlrs then it could be worse.....
