Door won't open from inside or out

Possible that the cable from the inside door 
release is loose, - pull back the lever, remove 
the philips screw and carefully remove the handle - try it then.

I had a similar issue - turned out that I didn't 
reinstall the square cable retainer clip in the correct position.
