starter inconsistency

Kneale,

My starter died a year and a half ago..I verified it was not the solenoid
wire by hooking
up a battery positive to the start terminal.....nothing.....so I ordered a
replacement
rebuilt starter and when it arrived, I swapped it in.

After the job was complete, tested, ...I gave the old one a quick look, and
discovered the
copper braid going from the heavy secondary terminal of the solenoid into
the motor housing
had corroded to where it had gone open circuit. The braid had no insulation,
was bare exposed
in a to the elements in a small section.

A simple wire replacement could have fixed my problem....however, I had a
rebuilt
starter already installed and working..so I gave the old one in for the core
replacement
deposit....

Perhaps this is what is ailing your starter..I know we live in very similar
(winter) corrosive
environments.

Alan
