A bad MFTS can cause low water temp readings also. I usually confirm a stuck open thermostat by a low reading on the oil temp as well. It takes about 10 miles of hwy speed driving to get the oil up to temp.

Good question. On my 100S (V6), the temp gauge takes about 15 miles of
driving in freezing (<32F) weather to get heat out of the heater.  I
think I have a stuck thermostat.  The needle struggles to reach the
first mark.

My 200TQA got to temp quicker, and heated OK, (I'll spare you the
"plenty of heat" jokes), but the needle would be barely past the first
big mark (which I'll define those two big marks as being the "normal"
operating temperature range (low end and high end).

I've never seen either gauge's needle in the middle (12 o'clock).
