Window regulator

I have been through driver door window regulator hell more than once. You
can restring the cable and kluge the cable fastener, but last time around, I
bought a new aftermarket regulator from Blau for around $175 and it has
worked great for more than 3 years. It is made in Italy and appears more
robust than OEM.

Haven't taken the panel off but the window went down (drivers side)
then crunched, I hear the motor try to bring the window up but nothing.
What's the latest on the repair for this problem? Source for
regulators? I have heard they are expensive and what is after marketed
is crap.
Thanks. Window is down all the way making it tough to drive.

No BTDT, but if the motor is good, maybe just a cable or pulley. Take
it apart.

I used an aftermarket regulator--obtained about 15 months ago from
AutoHaus Arizona. Here's what I had to say then about the
installation (and a problem with the part quality). BTW, it's been
working OK for the past year, but I avoid using that window any more
than absolutely necessary.

Eric: A typical no start issue with the 12v v6 is the Hall effect
timing sensor on the back of the driver's side head. Held in with 2
10mm bolts; not so hard to swap out. I've got a spare if you'd like to
try it out.

Gents,

Sorry for the post here, but think the type 44 gets a tad more traffic!

Had bought, rehabbed and sold ($1k in parts) a clean 96 A6 Avant in the
fall. Was sold locally to a guy I know...

He just called and they're having a intermittent start issue.
Occasionally
car won't start (when hot), but if allowed to sit will start after a
while.
Does crank, but doesn't start. Tonight they had to let it sit for 45
minutes
before it would fire.

Going to run VAG Com tomorrow morning to and see if that shows any
codes...

don't know if it's fuel or ignition related, hopefully able to narrow it
down in the morning once he gets here!

Any BTDT's? Going to surf around and see what I can find, but figured
I'd
ask around first.

Eric

OK, thanks to this list, I found some bushings without having to buy a
whole new rear subframe for over $1000 USD!!
In first place was Addict Motorsports (www.addictmotorsport.com). Jason
Patek makes them for the C4 chasis. They also fit the 91 rear (and I
suspect the 89 and 90 based on Alldata). It is labelled part 1A. He
makes them in delrin and aluminum. He had alum in stock, so for about
$10 extra, he sent those overnight. Excellent service. Bushes were under
a $100 for all 8 (each opening takes two).
In second place is VAG parts (www.vagparts.com). According to Alan, he
can get them in OEM like rubber.
Hopefully this info will save someone else some wear and tear on
locating these puppies.
Thanks to all who responded!!!
Regards,
Jerry

I've usually had to replace the regulator. I wanted to try a repair
but found it beyond my abilities. IIRC, getting the cable out was the
hard part.
I've had good luck with used regulators (haven't bought a new
regulator yet - haven't had a used one fail yet - although I may just
be lucky), I just disassembled and relubed it. The hardest part has
been getting the door trim off the door without breaking little bits
of 17 year old brittle plastic. Take car to remember the position of
the spacers for the door frame.
