More "reliable"? Perhaps so (after all, we do know better than to 
trust Audi electrical gadgets), but isn't the real reason that you 
(i.e., not "you" personally, of course) can manage to use that last 
0.5 mm of pad thickness without the annoyance of the built-in sensor 
announcing to the world you're a cheap SOB? ;-)
