Driveshaft "clunk"

I have a noise from the center driveshaft. When I change gears, I get a
"clunk" from here. If I get under the car and turn the driveshaft by hand
from side to side, I get the same noise. It sounds like it's from "inside"
the shaft, but of course everything looks tight. Anybody know this? I have
heard this noise on a lot of older quattros, so I guess it's just wear and
tear, but..

BTW: The MM hose between the IC and inlet pipe blew the other day, after 17
years. It's NLA at the dealer! I had to order the Samco hoses, but it will
take anywhere between 1 and 3 months to get them.. :( Luckily, the hose was
not too bad, I was able to fix it temporarily with electrician's tape and
duct tape.. ;)
