intermittant heavy load on Alternator?

Curious, I have a newer alternator and battery.  With the car running  
(idling) AC on I read 13.2 on jumper post, about the same on the battery.   On the 
AC controller channel 11, I read 11.0to 11.3 and a little over what I  think is 
12 on the dash.  My AC controller seldom reads over 13 during any  kind of 
operation.  I have read 14+ at times on the battery and jumper  post.  Had about 
the same on the old alternator before I replaced it.
 
I seam to eat a battery every two years, buy cheap ones from Sam's  club.
 
Have always wondered how that might change if I ever get around to  
installing my Euro's with 100 watt bulbs.
