Stuck in 5th

So, the faithfull 200 left me (almost) stranded yesterday.  Parked the
car, went about my business of the day.  When it came time to leave, I
started the car and went to put it in 1st.  Nothing.  Couldn't find it.

Mess around for a few minutes and ease the clutch out.  Huh, already in
gear, feels like 5th.  How that happened, I have no idea, as I don't
usually park it in 5th.

Was on a hill so was able to get going, and did my best to time lights and
managed to get home without abusing the clutch too much in 5th.

Dove into it a little today, and I can't for the life of me figure out
what the deal it.  Nothing obvious looks out of whack.  Any thoughs or
suggestions before I thow int he towel and have it towed to the shop?
