advice in breaking apart the front outer CV joint

I have on occasion removed the difficult circlip. First make sure it is free 
to move as Bernie suggested. I used a small chisel to cut off one tang of 
the clip, then turn the clip with the remaining tang to expose more of that 
end. Pry the loose end away so it can be grasped with pliers, I used 
diagonal cutters.Pull and bend what is sticking out, rotate the clip again, 
repeat 'till it is out.
It will require a replacement clip.
