how many have done valve work?

My car excessive oil consumption (and blue smoke) was diagnosed as
caused by valve stem seals. Replacement job (two years ago, $500 labor)
confirmed it. Since then I don't add any oil between my yearly (~7-8k
miles) changes. 271k miles on the clock.
