transmission swap update

I finally got the transmission out!! It was about 1.5 days. I couldn't get
the downpipe off at first. It turned out that I was afraid of breaking it,
no doubt a very expensive mistake, and so did take it off. I took out the
airbox which was a job! This was to remove the heat shield so I could get my
hand in to the smaller lower inside nut on the exhaust pipe. As suggested by
Alan, a stubby 15mm worked. The seat belt cable was also a PITA. The
(useless)Bentley suggested by removing one bolt I could remove the cable. As
usual the Bentley oversimplified. I had to take off all 4 hex bolts on the
top and released the cable.
I'm taking the weekend off. The Audi will sit on jackstands until later.
Any tips on lining up the tranny during the installation? Isit just hit and
miss? When I changed the tranny on my 83 4K it was a lengthy procedure.
John
