Other people do seem to get clunks. As to having to be "sloppy loose" 
in order to clunk...well perhaps so. But so what? This is perhaps 
just one more example of  your sunbelt environment being a little 
easier on your Audis compared to what midwest and eastern owners 
experience. Anyway, we're making suggestions to someone who recently 
bought an 18 yr-old car with relatively unknown maintenance and 
driving history. It doesn't take much imagination to conclude that if 
he's able to grab hold of a rear wheel and make it audibly clunk by 
pulling upwards against that linkage (as was the case in two of my 
'91s), then they'll likely do some klunking when driving over rough 
roads.

I recall hearing that each end was available separately in the fairly 
distant past, but that situation was said to have changed quite a 
number of years ago. Have you recently seen the link ends listed as 
separate items?
