alt belt and pulley

I have seen one piece and multi piece on various VAG cars. Ultimately  
you have the bits that you have so rig it so that the V belt is tight  
but so that the flat bit at the bottom of the V is not in contact with  
the center of the pully. All of the load should be taken by the flanks  
of the V. How deep into the pulley it is doesn't really matter as long  
as the outside of the belt is a couple of thou below the edge of the 2  
pulley halves.
