I have had to replace several roof antennas on my Avant's.  I think I  got 
them at Attenaworld.com.  There is an internal booster amp built into  the 
antenna base that goes out.  The symptom is no or poor AM and week  FM.  I once 
took apart the base, and eliminated the amp and tried an after  marked booster 
with very limited success and wasted a lot of time.
