Rob:
understand that there is no difference in the strut insert aka shocks
for these cars ( G60 brake or UFO brake)
. - alot of folks will talk about "struts" and they mean the strut &
wheel housing, not the "shock" - ditto for the springs.
The UFO is a big, heavy honking rotor, but Audi squeezed the rotor
for a 16 inch rim under a 15 inch wheel, a pretty cool engineering
accomplishment. It's going to cost you more to purchase and swap
the strut/wheel housings from a G60 equipped car ( probably a V8) to
your car than two replace the UFOs (even at about $250 per rotor) .
Short of going to a big brake set up ( which means the cost of the
G60 struts, bigger rotors and calipers, new brake lines, you are
going to be going to a SMALLER brake when you convert to a G60.
If you get brake shimmy, you either have a cementite build up on your
rotor, which is a layer of metal typically over rust that is actually
harder than the rest of the rotor - this can be scraped off with a
carbide scraper or file, or the rotor can be turned. If your rotors
are clean and you still get shimmy, then the inner lower control arm
bushing is worn ...
Not sure what he means about bolt spacing - the hubs are all 5 x 112-
you just need a certain about of wheel dish to clear the UFO rotor,
not al 35mm offset rims will fit as a result.
