I recall that the general wisdom on removing the rear muffler instead of the
center was to avoid resonance. Having a loooong pipe with a muffler way at
the end typically allows more resonation. The primary pursuit that you
seemed to mention was the sound. This would be a good inexpensive way to
get some more sound.
Congrats on saving one. The wagons are even more dear (less than 150 left)
and some people think nothing of yanking the engine and then off to the
crusher. Makes me ill. Sadly, like pets, you can't save them all.
