Ken,

As I recall, it's capacitors gone to pot.  I'm sure someone will send  
you a link on here, but I know way back when Brett put together a "do- 
it yourself" set of instructions.  I don't recall the link and no  
longer have any of my records.  Generally, the fix is removing and  
replacing five or so capacitors from the amplifier boards.  The  
instructions give the capacitors, values, locations, back-story, etc.

If you're moderately handy with a soldering iron and have some time,  
find those instructions, get yourself a digikey catalog, order the  
parts, and have at it.  Probably 10 to 20 bucks in parts tops to fix  
both.
