Power steering noise

Folks, what does the noise sound like that people report getting when replacing the pressure line with something that has no noise suppressor?
I've got a whirring/ motor noise that rises and falls with engine speed, and gets louder with steering input.
Is that it?  I don't know if the replacement (German made) line I installed had the suppressor, but I have this noise for sure.
Bugs me!  If I knew what it was, it wouldn't be too bad.
