Crank it over for a good 10-15 seconds and then with the ignition
still on, dump codes, preferably with VAGCOM. I'd put good money on a
sensor unplugged or accidentally bumped.
Pull a plug. Is it soaked in gas? Check the FPR hose, make sure it's
still connected. If it isn't, idle fuel pressure will be way too
high.
The first thing that occurred to me was that the air leak caused fuel
trim to go really wonky, but I don't think that would be enough to
prevent it from starting. It'd probably run, just...badly, depending
on the size of the leak.
When you were playing around in that area, did you perhaps bump the
distributor cap? Unless the clips are completely seated, it's pretty
easy to get it knocked off-kilter. How does the IAT look, still
soldered up?
