There is a slight chance that your fuel pump cam loose from the bracket in  
the bottom of the tank and moved.  The only reason I say this is, I  
installed mine orientated the wrong way and the fuel gauge went down to about  
1/3, stuck and I ran out of gas.  (stupid is as stupid does).  The  wire on the 
float hit a fuel line and would not go lower as the fuel ran  out.  It is a 
long shot.  
 
If you pull the fuel pump access plate on the top of the tank, you should  
be able to move the mechanism and see if the gauge works,  Also look at the  
wires on top the tank.
 
All a long shot, but you never know.
