Best source for an ECM for the '91 200 TQ 20v?

Jim,
Another "vulnerable" part of the system is the distributor-shaft gear
(original gear is nylon) and also its "mate"--a steel gear that is
(usually) an integral part of the exhaust camshaft.

About a year ago, my '91 200q lost power while on the track at
Watkins Glen. Later on at the shop, an inspection revealed that the
flywheel pin had broken off. A replacement pin was installed, but the
car still would not start.

Further investigation revealed that the distributor drive gear was
not mating with the camshaft gear. But when the distributor was
pulled, they didn't see what they expected: in fact the notoriously
fragile nylon gear at the end of the distributor shaft was in perfect
condition, but the steel camshaft gear that meshes with it had
snapped off. I've since heard that it's happened to others but not
common. Much, much more common is disintegration of that plastic gear
that's pinned to the end of the distributor shaft.

So...getting the car to start required replacing the exhaust cam, and
for good measure, the long-overdue replacement of the nylon
distributor gear with the (Benz) metal upgrade.

Perhaps you've eliminated the possibility of such distributor
issues, but be sure to do so before going to the expense of replacing
the ECU. Good luck.

Phil
