Catalytic Converters for 20V Avant

Hey Keith,

the 034 turbo back for the 200q20v is about $1k plus installation, i believe. it
is California legal. my guess is that they can use any cat with their exhaust -
not just ones that will fit audi exhausts. hence the cats are cheaper.

as far as the new software being able to tell if the CEL light has been erased -
i highly doubt that's possible with the 200q20v - as it's not even OBDI - it's
some bosch/audi proprietary thing. and it has no stored memory once you pull the
ecu fuses for about 15 minutes (the ones lableld "motoren" in the fuse box).

i''m not saying i know exactly what i'm talking about - but i believe it's
highly doubtful the ecu will have a stored memory code like OBDII and later
ecus.

can anybody verify?

see ya,
Robby

Robby-

It's been a while since I visited this issue - Avant - California - and Bernie
sold me some used cats (thanks again, Bernie). So, iare saying "An excuse for a
034 turboback " does that mean 'what the hell, can't be legal.....OR is this
system legal? They are getting even more nasty here, and smogging my '97 A6 I
had to remove the after market intake for a K&N cone-type filter. And, was also
told that the state software was getting upgraded to fail a test if a "Check
Engine Light" code had been erased with the last ten days. (An if I now try to
purchase from my pharmacy Claratin D ONE DAY EARLIER than the max dose of one
per day for 15 days - longest script anyone can now get here- it's denied. I
might be using it for making meth. Not yet).

Anyway, I am at the cusp of what to do with this beautiful car and the
eight-year relationship (owners, you know what I am talking about) and if it is
getting impossible to keep; this car legal in California - other than finding
donor cats- or spending $1,000 or more, what is the grand plan? Is it a 20 year
"antique" clause or something that we can hope for? Anyone?
