Alan, I agree with Tony regarding the Winterforce tires as a good choice if you have any real winter weather. They work for the other 3 seasons as well. You should be able to find them in the neighborhood of $300..........

I've also liked the General Exclaim UHP (I think that's the name). Not
something I run, as I have dedicated summers and snows, but my
relatives (three of them) love this tire on their cars. Seem to wear
fairly long as well.
Also, if you live where the snow falls often, you might check out the
firestone winterforce tires. You can use them as an all season year
round. I've got 10k on mine (they are my snow tires) and they still
look great. I'll get at least 30k of fairly aggressive driving out of
them. Some reviews on tirerack state 50k of wear before replacing.
However, they will still wear out faster than most traditional all
seasons. However, the wet and snow traction is incredible!
