thanks kneale - that's invariably what happened when the v-belt was changed at
some point.

There are two parts to the alternator belt tensioner system (it's a V-belt,
not a serpentine belt, by the way). The bolt and gear come as a set as
Part No. 034903555B. The angled bracket with teeth the gear drives to
tension the belt is 034903247D.

It's really important to loosen the two bolts the alternator swings on, as
well as the brace from the A/C compressor belt tensioning system or you
will screw up the teeth on the bracket and wheel.

hi all,

gonna screw with the alternator and regulator. i seem to remember the belt
tensioner was not working - and using a crow bar to push the alternator far
enough away to tension the belt ;-)

i would rather not do that again - what's the part number for the
tensioner? i
can't find it online.

thanks,
Robby
