Given it doesn't like to rev, and there was heavy black exhaust when you
could get it to, my guess is still a clogged cat.

They say the problem persisted with the exhaust removed. But maybe the
rich exhaust and bad 02 was 1/2 the problem even with the exhaust removed.
And now with those problems fixed, the clogged cat can rear its ugly head.

Or go back to the basics -- air, fuel, compression, ignition: which one
is playing hard to get?
