[20v] Steering Rack R&R experience?

Peter,
I have over the years R&Rd 3 racks in 44 chassis cars and overhauled
the racks. R&R is indeed a pita but can be done as a one man job.
Easier to loosen the hose fittings after the rack is loose. There is
a wiring harness in the way, pass side wheel well. It can be forced
aside to make room for rack exiting. Rack overhaul is the easy part.
These ZF racks are bullet proof, EXCEPTING for the high pressure rod
seal. Last time I redesigned this seal, replacing the (cheap) hard
plastic seal with an elastormeric quad ring backed up with a nylon
back up ring. Still no leaks at 100K. Bentleys are not much help but
the 5K a little better than the 200 version. Ask specifics as you go.
