in Penn. - blueprinted engine, GT3701 turbo, AAN ecu conversion that was
listed for $10k - i probably could have gotten that thing for $8,500 or
thereabouts and i'd have a 500HP 20V to show for it.

Totally agreed, and that's a good point--one I can use for leverage.
The trick is FINDING a 200q20v.  The A4s have the advantage of being
plentiful and local--there's no substitute for a test drive.  So the
deck is stacked against me in more than one way  :)
