Help diagnosing clicking noise

I pulled over twice, intending to lift the hood and check it out, but  
each time I stopped the car, the voltage meter was steady and the  
clicking noise stopped.  Sorry about omitting that last bit of info in  
the original posting.  And yes, I agree, there seems to be something  
new every 7,500 miles or so.  However for the last 18 months, I've had  
no major problems.   Famous last words.
