Avant/Coupe questions

Although.....you might be able to fabricate a strong hinge setup on your own if you wanted a project....i don't have a sedan, my only experience in this is removing a 200q20v sedan ski bag and installing it in my jetta tdi, which I already converted to the 60/40 split rear with armrest. The construction of the seats is different, the foldown seats had two layers of metal, in a sheet and corrugated form, tack welded together, as that rear wall or seats must offer substantial body strength to a side impact.......so I would err on the side of caution b4 you take a saw to it, and make it strong if you want to do that mod....anway that being said I love the 60/40 split with skibag super versatile, also the ski bag is size enough to hold some pairs of new school fatty skis, unlike the diagonal style ski racks, the tdi had the single piece foldown when I got it.

My apologies to all. I wrote before my first cup of coffee. Please
substitute sedan for coupe in the prior Avant fold down seat question.

Damn brain just doesn't want to work without caffeine anymore...

I have two avants, the seat backs fold down to be level with the rear cargo
area of the avant. It is not like a VW setup where the seat bottoms fold
out forward and then the seats fold down. My avant seats do not have ski
bag option.

I don't know what you are talking about a 200q coupe?? the sedans have
sheet metal backing behind the seats so it's not an option to fold down

To one and all.

It must be the spring thaw that starts the mind down potentially useless
project lane. As the temperatures begin to rise, I seem to have come up
with a possible alternation to my 200q20v coupe that may improve its
usefulness in its remaining years of service.

I know precious little about the Avant. The questions are 1) does the Avant
have reclining/foldable rear seat backs (as I would expect in most hatchback
and station wagon like vehicles)? 2) If so has anyone ever swapped the
Avant rear seatbacks to allow for expansion of the coupe trunk (beyond the
center ski and pole chute)? 3) If yes, is there either a write up, pictures
or BTDT to pass along?

I apologize in advance if this has already been covered, taken to task,
chewed up, spit out and denounced as lunacy. Otherwise, thanks for any
information on the subject.

Later..
