Questions about reinstalling head

I've had gaskets fail after using several different "Coating" materials.
Copper gasket spray, silver metallic paint, I hear all kinds of suggestions.
I wouldn't use anything. The factory doesen't. Sometimes the enemy of "Good"
is "Better".

Always use new head bolts. Not worth the risk. I use q-tips and brake-cleen
to clear out the block threads of any oil or coolant. When you torque the
head bolts, you will compress whatever (Non-compressible) fluid is left in
the bolt holes and can potentially crack the block. I did it on my first BMW
head job. Don't forget a light coating of assembly lube on the bolt threads.
