hard start issue

the latest is my friend dave came over to take a look. unfortunately, he's
missing the appropriate fitting on his pressure gauge to pressure test the fuel
system. so we will reconvene later. visual inspection yeilded that the
relatively new MFTS temp sensor was loose and leaking around the hose -
tightened her up.
the car is on it's 3rd coolant temp sensor as well.
puled the isv - not much grime in their - but blasted it with carb cleaner
anyway.
what does look to be suspect is the FPR. the cloth hose looks like it has a tiny
hole in it. being you have to take the FPR off to replace the hose, might as
well just get a new one?
again dave will come back with the proper fitting to test the system first.
i'm conflicted - the cheapest FPR i've found was about $60 plus shipping for the
stock bosch. can't i get a decent adjustable FPR cheaper than the $260 034
model? and i don't think you even get a gauge for your money. just playing with
the idea - but does anybody know of a decent adjustable FPR with a gauge for
less? i like the idea that not only can the adjustable "grow with the car" if i
go for a bigger turbo and injectors down the road - but i can adjust pressure on
the fly - hence it will last longer than the stock one - once it's out of spec.
the car does start after a few seconds - but it's certainly dumping fuel when
cold.
still pulls like a freight train though when you mash the accelerator ;-)
thanks,
Robby

coolant temp sensor. The one the ECU uses to determine engine temp.
My understanding of the check valve failure with regards to hot
restarts was fuel boiling in the lines, and therefore having to clear
the air out. But, either way, you guys hit it on the head. Hot
starting problems can be caused by it, but I've never seen one cause
cold starting problems (in probably 50 cases I've fixed).
Does holding the throttle open a bit help at all?
Tony
