Similarly, I have been chasing a miss problem for some time. The overall outcome was a
combination of things, starting with leaking cam cover gasket.
I replaced plugs - new Denso IK22 Iridium (not cheap) ; checked wires, new cap & rotor.
Ealier I had obious mis on cyl #1 and # 3 caused definatatively by the oil leaking into
the plug wells. Replacing the Cam Cover Gasket resoled it , but only breifly and came
back intermittantly then continuaously. I was considering fuel pressure, since I am
running 3 bar and the problem is more pronounced under boost. However, more and more
rough running appeared at startup, so I pulled plug wires again. This time it seemed #2
was not dropping RPM like the others. Checked wire and plug 0 they wer sparking and put
the Denso back again. Still it missed. Pulled the DENSO and put back an old BOCSH.
That was it and I can boost to high heaven at nauseum
at least until something else
degrades.
The DENSO plugs are only a few months new! I think one was defective out off the box -
you cant tell by looking and passes test, but fails under boost.
Ignition problems can result from a number of reasonbs are general cause of bad running
especially under load/boost. They are first suspect when car was running well with no
other obvious changes.

Hi Y'all,
It is seldom that one gets to report a simple repair. I had to run
an errand this morning and just for kicks I drove the RS2ed
urS6. (With the 1.8t coil mod.) On the way back home came the
unmistakable single cylinder miss of a dropped coil. Pulled into the
garage and checked to find the dead coil at cylinder #4. Unplugged
the coil, got into the box of spare coils in the trunk and plugged in
a new coil. Bingo! The miss is fixed. So simple.
This report is probably a big mistake. The Audi gods are likely to
come after me now.
