Alrighty guys, so I'm actually contemplating selling my '91. A few reasons
being that I live in California and I'm not sure the current cat will be up
to emissions standards (coincidentally, I hate the CARB), and I found a
newer car for an insanely low price that gets better gas mileage.
Kinda wanting to know if there's any interest in one, whether it's even
worth selling or not.
I bought it in late 2008 for $6,550, at about 94k, and it now has 107k. The
seller wasn't entirely truthful about the car's condition, but I will be.
First, the car had an engine fire at around 50k, and I can say honestly that
I don't believe there's a crispy part left. I've replaced SO MUCH in
there. New knock sensors, after-run temp sensor, gaskets, I even had the
entire engine wiring harness (uncut, DID NOT splice together) replaced,
etc... I installed all 4 Heavy Duty Bilsteins (and JUST replaced the strut
mounts last week, they lasted me a year). I converted the instrument
cluster to white faces. I CUSTOM INSTALLED a new sound system with rear
6x9's, front 5-1/4's, silk-dome tweeters in the dash, and a 10" sub in the
back which I mirror plexiglassed the back so that when you pull the rear
center ski compartment down, it shows the sub. The Bose gave out on me, but
it now sounds like an IMAX theater in there. I also installed an Autometer
C2 boost gauge on the driver's A pillar. I put a lot of work into this
baby. Oh, and it is in fact an IA Stage III+ chip in the ECU. I called
them with the number written on the ECU and verified that it is. As of
right now, there are no boost leaks, and I pull around 15+ psi. There's an
Optima Red-Top under the seat...
Now, problems I'm having right now are... Check engine light on, don't know
why, I can't get Vag-Com because I'm a Mac user, and I don't like
partitioning my drives... ABS isn't working properly. Airbag light is on,
checked clock-spring, verified that it received the recall, can't figure out
why the light is on. Brake light sometimes randomly comes up, even when the
parking brake is engaged. A/C compressor clutch is most likely bad, I
serviced it about 1k ago, but shortly after, my 3,000rpm squeal came back.
Also, despite the fact that I went to GREAT LENGTHS to replace the little
cruise control vacuum pump/servo thingy, it still doesn't work. Last,
there's a small dent under the driver's brake light, because I forgot to
completely engage the parking brake on a hill, and rolled into the car
behind me. Nothing major, and I replaced the tail-light, but it's there
nevertheless.
Even with all these issues, it does only have 107k, and a TON of new parts
in the engine.
Any interest?
Thanks,
Mike Palatas
