ECU swap

Yesterday I went back to basics checking every wire for continuity, shorts,
resistance matching between parallel circuits, etc... And after going
through this three times already during the sequence of bringing this thing
back up one step at a time (with a helper) I found two crossed wires. Now it
runs perfect. Embarrasing but it happens. Somewhere cleaning plugs and
removing plugs to clean and to turn the engine over to bring the lube up top
while looking at the fuel pump and all that 4 and 5 got crossed. I clocked
through the distributor and checked for 6kohms on all the wires at the
beginning of the process to eliminate that. Not sure whether I did it myself
or whether my helper did it but it doesn't matter. It runs now. The only
good thing about this is that I have now been through every wire,
connection, component, sensor, pump, etc... in the entire system so I think
it is all in really top shape now for bringing this thing back up that is
all good stuff to have touched and know about. I also learned how to clean
and inspect an injector on the bench and have a second set of injectors to
clean and put on the shelf that all test as good. Now back to my brake
master cylinder experiment and working on the instrument cluster and some
other sundry things. I drove it up and down the road out front and even the
ABS was triggering nicely and the hydraulic system was working properly,
heat was working, clutch was solid, no dash system lights, airbag light was
out, and after putting it away last night, no fluids on the ground AT ALL
not even a drip. Which is all pretty amazing considering.

Love that smooth sewing machine sound and throttle response that this engine
has as standard.

BTW, brake master came apart very quickly and easily. The guts are very much
like a BMW master cylinder of the same era in the mid 90s but it measures
as 1" bore instead of 25mm. I have a guy that has access to all the
rebuilders seal part numbers looking at putting together a kit that anyone
can buy. Will post that info when I have it done. There is a guy providing
kits for the hydraulic booster already in a BMW forum.

Have you cranked teh engine with the injectors pulled out? If so, and you
have one that doesn't spray, swap it to another cylinder and see what
happens. Make sure to disable the ign, as you don't want a fire!!
