Hi Pete:
I have used Dependable Auto Shippers exclusively. I have shipped a Chevy
1Ton Dually from Texas to Massachusetts; a Porsche 928 from Pittsburg to
Massachusetts; a Ford F150 from Florida to Massachusetts; and an Audi V8
from Massachusetts to Virginia. All were without incident, damage, delay or
hollabolloo. Decent price...probably not the cheapest, but decent.
I have flown to Minneapolis to pick up my first Audi 200 Avant and driven it
back to Maine; flown to Kansas City to drive back my wife's 100CS Avant
(which is still in service eleven years later)These driving trips were all
to Maine.
I have driven to Pittsburg to pick up my current driver, my 1990 Audi V8
Quattro; driven to White Plains, New York, to pick up and driven back to
Maine with a BMW 2800CS. All of these pulling a Uhaul auto transporter with
my truck.
Without a question, considering all of the trips that I have made and all
the vehicles that I have purchased and had hauled to me, I would MUCH prefer
to go and pick up the vehicle and drive it back, or haul it back myself.
While DAS has been excellent for me, I have heard many of the same horror
stories that you probably have heard. The rule of thumb is the more hands
that touch your car, the more damage it likely will have before you even see
it.
If you have the time, go out to California, pick up the car, make sure it is
serviced and ready, then drive it home. The real difference in cost is
going to be the time you spend making the trip. Take your girlfriend along
and have some fun.
Ohhhhhhh, you are married? Well, take your girlfriend anyway, stop in Las
Vegas: what happens there, stays there, doesn't it?
Seriously, fly out and drive it back. Unless the early late winter really
turns nasty, it will take you about four and a half days and be well worth
it.
Just my .02 worth....
Roger

Hi guys, just bought an used 02 S6 Avant out in California.
I live in Minnesota and will probably have the car shipped to Minnesota
other than drive it.
Does any one recommend a go auto transport company that I can trust?
Got a ton of quotes on line and have also read a lot of reports of
problems. Also not sure if I should ship it open or pay the extra for
enclosed.
Thanks Pete,
91 Avant (go to say by by soon)
02 S Avant (the Audi love/hate relationship goes on)
