the stalling when pulling your foot off the accelerator in neutral is most
likely a worn out bypass valve. just buy the billet one from 034. BTDT.

see ya,
Robby

Subject: Sorting a 200q20v (low boost, stalling, heater, ...)

Hey 200q20v'ers,

So I'm starting to take an interest in and drive my gray 200q20v again, and I
want to iron out some of the issues that it has. In my search for archive info,

I came across a two-year old post from me describing most of the stuff that
I haven't fixed with the car yet. Wow, time flies when you're
attention is elsewhere! The car is pretty close to being sorted and I just want
to

iron out a few remaining issues.

Here's my old post:
http://www.audifans.com/pipermail/200q20v/2008-November/026420.html

I'll include just the still-relevant excerpts here again, just in case anyone
has anything new to offer, and add some more recent concerns.

"This car like all the other 200q20v's I've been around has the hood catching on

the passenger wiper arm. What's the fix for that? Move the wiper up so that it

parks higher (unattractive) and/or pull the hood forward slightly (seems to
match up with the fenders fine like it is)."

What do I have to do, pull the hood forward, and then pull the fenders forward
to match, and then the doors, etc.? Surely there must be something specific to
the wipers that I can do to fix this. Am I the only one who's hood catchs the
wiper arms?

"I think something is up with the climate control, of course. Aside from it not

blowing consistently cold with the a/c on, it almost feels like the heater is on

when it's on econ and set to a lower temp than ambient."

I currently have the recirculation door blocked to the closed position as the
anchor point for the servo or return spring is broken. I'll be fixing that, but

I'm not sure if that issue is associated with the warm air I'm getting from the
econ setting when it's set to a comfortable temp that should not require the
heater to come on.

I read something that indicated that the recirc flap is linked with the heater
valve, so that might explain what I'm experiencing. I believe I have a golf tee

in the recirc servo hose to keep it sealed, but I thought there was also a flap
to the heater core in addition to the heater valve, such that even if the heater

valve was open I would still not get warm air unintentionally if that flap was
closed. Can someone explain how that part of it functions?

"Also, the autocheck seems to be really pessimistic about how many more miles I
have 'til empty. When I'm just in the red or so it's already claiming 30 miles
to go, etc. I've taken it down to E with just a little more room to go until
where the needle rests with the key off, and it takes more than 30 miles to get
there from when the autocheck starts warning."

Is there a way to adjust or calibrate the autocheck to the fuel gauge to the
actual fuel volume?

Yesterday I noticed that if I let off the throttle from high rpms, for example
running through the gears into third and then declutching into neutral and
letting the rpms drop all the day, the rpms really drop all the way to
stalling.

Since the car idles even when cold, it seems the ISV circuit is working okay, so

I'm wondering if the TPS is malfunctioning and not telling the ECU that I've
closed the throttle so it isn't prepared to catch the RPMs before stalling.

This may explain why I am getting only 1.4bar indicated (baseline, WG spring
only, w/o ECU assist) boost, and the boost comes on too slowly. Perhaps my TPS
isn't signally WOT either, causing both problems. That seems like a reasonable
theory, right? Of course, I will check and diagnose in person when I get a
chance.

It feels pretty good to be driving the 200q20v again! I plan to sort out the
stock boost situation and

then install in the Swann chipset and really start grinning.

Cheers,

Kenneth
