Subj: Re: Shipping a Car Cross Country
I had my S6 shipped from the Bay area to Minnesota, cost was $750, I got
buried in Internet quotes and goggling. I finally called a local Audi
dealer and they gave me a recommendation. I used open shipping and the car was
the first one on the upper decked, rear end pointed forward. No issues and
good communication.
Things beside cost to consider are, location on the truck, weather (they
do have to go over a mountain pass), and it is better to not have them change
trucks. Same truck door to door. I also had my 200 shipped from the bay
area 14 years ago. No problems either time. Have someone you know
supervise the load and unload.
Remember most shipping companies are brokers and do not have there own
trucks, they get about %15.
Best to find a carrier that owns there own equipment, and remember to get
there insurance information.
Good luck, what did you buy?

I searched the archives and there were a few threads on this on a
couple of the lists, but no real consensus.
I'm interested in shipping a car from the Bay area, CA to central NC.
I put my vital stats into a couple of quote sites and got deluged with
quotes anywhere from $825 to $1100 for open carrier shipping. My
budget is about a grand.
Does anyone have any firsthand experience with shipping a car that
kind of distance? How did it work out? And is there anything
specific about the departure and arrival states that I need to be
aware of?
Thanks guys. Hope to join your ranks soon. :)
