200q20v Eye & Ear Candy

yeah, i'm basically "doubling down" on my 20V. might as well get it exactly the way i want it.
i have had some real fun times with it though. coming back from work, there was a mid-90's M3 coupe playing with a boxster S on the 80 through Berkeley. traffic was light. i pull up next to the boxster and he sort of stares at me like "what are you going to do with THAT THING"?
he takes off, and i nail it. i steadily pull away from him from 70-110mph (yes, he was trying). i shut it down and when he caught up, he just gives me the nod and thumbs up.
then there was the time with a lowered 1.8T GTI in the twisties in the oakland hills. sure that little go kart corners better - but not enough to make up for the brute torque of a chipped 200q20v. plus AWD certainly helps push the beast through the corners ;-)
sure, a URS4 is technically a better car. not necessarily faster, but just more modern. but they look like any other car. i dig the rarity and old-skool UR looks of the 20V.
see ya,
Robby

Robby,
You kill me. My own recent 200tq story is much the same, but I got mine for
$400, and the body and paint were in great shape. Nothing else was, though.
I was in for about you have in your Lago, though without the same engine
performance.
The funny thing I found in your post is that your 200 might end up being
your casket. My father was/is a Corvair man. Swore up and down that he'd be
buried in a 180 turbo. That car would go like hell in a straight line for
the 4 or 6 blocks that it ran right. Why he loved them so, I'll never fully
understand. One time I got a girl by telling her the '67 Monza I was driving
was really an old Ferrari. The romance lasted about 45 minutes until the
damn thing threw the belt.
Then there's us...loving 20+ year-old German-made cars with dwindling
supplies and replacements. Just goes to show, bro. :-) Keep that bad boy
rolling hard.

Hi Kenneth,
my friend owns a body shop in oakland, ca where i live. won't be free, but
should be a decent buddy deal. i don't think i'll have to jam it because
lago is pretty close to oceanic, but without the green tinge. my friend has
an oceanic 4kQ. the colors look relatively close when you park them next to
eachother.
my 200q20v is proof that one should never buy a car hastily because "you've
always wanted one".
i bought the car (listed on audifans in 2008) for $2,800. mainly because it
had low miles - advertised at 110k. recent timing belt, brake bomb,
radiators, UFOs, 17" A4 B6 rims, complete records including original window
sticker. the guy was honest - said the shocks were shot and the bose stereo
was a POS, a/c stopped working, needed tires and the sunroof didn't slide
back. but it was literally in my back yard.
i go to check the car out in hayward. the paint is shot. roof is faded. i
open the door and the mileage says 114k. not a big deal, but the story
behind it is sorta funny. the owner moved to hawaii and left it with his
uncle to store and to drive ONCE IN A WHILE to just keep the car from
rotting in his driveway. i guess his uncle really liked driving the car.
his original plan was to buy the car and rape it for the 3B for his UR
Quattro. but he said he just couldn't bring himself to kill the 200q20v. so
he just ended up keeping it.
the paint was a super bummer - but the interior was clean and the records
dictate that the mileage was indeed authentic. so, i buy the car. passes
smog the first time too. i thought i'd be into the car about $7,500 with
paint and tires. BWHAHAHA!!!!!
anyway, long story short - the car current state is as follows:
- dyno tuned 034 chip - 233WHP/260 torque - so a good 280HP/305 torque at
the crank. goes like stink. javad said he could push it more - but doing so
is stupid with the stock injectors.
- koni shocks/H&R springs (bought used from force5)
- 034 billet bypass
- samco hoses (bought used from a friend)
- 034 N75H WGFV
- 034 silicon breather hose kit
- 034 tranny mounts
- kuhmo ECSTA SPT tires
- i gotta paint it though. still looks sorta ghetto with the worn lago.
other than that - i plan on an 034 turboback. already have the euros and V8
tails. also have some good sunroof rails so the thing will finally slide
back.
i'll NEVER get my money out of the car once it's done. which is fine. it
will look killer, hang with modern sport sedans and it will probably be my
casket when i die ;-)
see ya,
Robby

Wow, Oceanic Blue on a 200q20v. That would be sweet. I haven't seen that
combo before. It's a great color. Lago is nice too, but Oceanic would be
sweet!
Are you having the paint done or doing it yourself by any chance?

Looks nice with those wheels, and love the V8 tails. Very aggressive!
Definately need to get it on the road and enjoy it, and surprising people at
it's speed. And, most people have no idea how old these cars are, either.
Would love to see it with some good camera pics as well, you will have to
post those once you get a chance. I love eye candy!!
Tony
Nice 200q20v.
